Confidentiality

Psychologists collect personal and health related information about clients for the purpose of providing a specific service for their client. They are required to abide by a strict Code of Ethics that is set by the Australian Psychological Society. This code protects the interests of the client and ensures that all information remains confidential, with some particular exceptions.

All personal information held by a psychologist will remain confidential and secure except in the following situations:

  1. If the information is subpoenaed by a Court of Law.

  2. If failure to disclose the information would place a client or another person in danger.

  3. When the client gives written consent for information to be released to another person or organisation such as another health professional.

  4. The client's name and contact details only may be given to a collection agency if payments for services provided are defaulted.
